About Our Service

The Central Equipment Loan Library (CELL) is a small but very important department that works closely with the Clinical Engineering team, providing a key function to support a range of patient services.

The CELL team manages an inventory of commonly used medical devices and equipment including pressure relieving mattresses and seat cushions, infusion pumps, syringe drivers, patient warmers, and feed pumps.

The team are responsible for the collection, decontamination, testing, and delivery of the equipment, and coordinate all activities relating to the loan of the equipment to patient services across all CDDFT sites, plus all the associated electronic recording and documentation required to ensure compliance is maintained.

CELL provides an ISO9001:2015 accredited service, and delivers their activity from two separate fully refurbished locations, at Darlington Memorial Hospital and the University Hospital of North Durham.

The team prides itself in offering an excellent service where all equipment is decontaminated and maintained to the highest standards, in line with Clinical Engineering and manufacturers guidelines.
