About Our Service

The Clinical Engineering Department provides a repair, maintenance, and contracts service for a diverse range of vital medical devices and equipment, used to support and advance patient care at all County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust’s acute and community sites. 

The department has two main teams that are based at Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham consisting of Engineers, Medical Devices Nurses, and an Assets, Contracts and Compliance Officer.  The department works closely with all members of staff in various teams both clinical and non-clinical.

In addition to commissioning, service, repair, installation, and training of medical devices, the Clinical Engineering Department supports in many multidisciplinary and specialist projects across the Trust including overseeing the Capital Replacement Programme of Medical and Surgical Equipment (MSE), Bedside Medical Device Integration (BMDI) and many other minor projects.  

The Clinical Engineering Department works to an ISO9001:2015 certified quality system.
