Portering and Transport
About Our Service
Working 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, the Portering Team perform vital functions within our Hospitals. They make sure patients are in the right place at the right time and that crucial items are delivered where they are needed.
Our trained staff are professional, friendly, helpful, calm and reassuring. This ensures that patients, staff and visitors feel cared for and valued.
Typical day to day duties can include:
- Transporting patients in wheelchairs, beds, or trolleys between wards and departments
- Delivering and collecting samples and bloods
- Distributing post, linen, and stores
- Moving equipment and medical gases
- Ensuring waste is collected and disposed of correctly
The Transport and Logistics team undertake the collection, delivery, and movement of samples, supplies, equipment, records, and mail between our hospital sites and over 150 GP surgeries.
SCL are committed to supporting the Trusts ‘Green Plan’ and as such, the majority of our vehicles are electric.
The Service is ISO9001:2015 accredited.
“The best part of my job is listening to porters interacting with patients and visitors, that’s something that’s not in the job description and can never be trained for. I think we’re very lucky with our great portering team because they demonstrate emotional intelligence in the conversations they have with our end users.
I remain very proud to work for SCL and support the NHS in the provision of this vital service.”
