Natalie Chapman
CELL Operator

Please introduce yourself …

My name is Natalie Chapman, I am 27 and have worked for SCL since April 2021.  I currently work part-time as I have a one-year-old daughter at home and I want to spend as much time with her as possible.

Tell us about your career history and how you came to work for us

I started working as a waitress while I was at university studying animal management.  I worked there for nearly five years, but I was made redundant during the Covid pandemic.  I began working at Amazon in August 2020 before moving to my current job as a CELL Operator.

Tell us about your role – what do you do?

As a CELL Operator my main role is to collect and decontaminate medical equipment from wards. We also deliver equipment back to wards when requested by staff through the Synbiotix system, and we keep a record of which wards or departments the medical devices are issued to and which patient they are with.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is when we are super busy and have a high demand on equipment needed by wards. We have to prioritise the most important equipment and get that decontaminated and delivered to the ward as soon as possible.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is how rewarding it is, knowing that we are making a difference to a patient’s time in hospital, by delivering equipment to help them to be as comfortable as possible and to help them recover quickly.

Why do you like working for us?

I like working for SCL because we are one big happy family and we are always helping each other out. Everyone is always pleasant and smiles and says hello as you walk past.
